48 Volt Seawater Desalination Unit

M-powered is currently exploring the development of a Seawater Desalination Unit that will operate natively from a 48 VDC power source. This is an important development that will improve the efficiency of producing freshwater for cruising yachts, but is also strategic as it paves the way to migrate high power consuming equipment up to the higher 48 Volts which reduces electrical loads, cabling weight and efficiencies.

This project is part of a technology development of stand-alone, fully autonomous, desalination units for humanitarian aid, however the application of this is also suited to cruising yachts requiring energy efficient fresh water production.

The m-powered desalination unit will be capable of providing 10,000 litres of water per day at an energy consumption of less than 2.5 Watts per litre.

In addition, the desalination system will be able to communicate digitally with other systems on the yacht to provide real time information on the operation of the desalination unit.

Please read Tech Note #3 on 48 Volt systems to review the advantages of the higher 48 VDC bus.

Enquiries relating to the development of the 48 Volt Desalination Unit are welcome.
